Dashboard Hierarchy Settings

With so much data at your fingertips it's important to be sure you're viewing that data from the intended perspective. The Intelligence hierarchy helps organize data in a way that makes sense for your organization, and the ability to dynamically set the hierarchy for a user viewing a dashboard brings you the opportunity to view that dashboard from your desired perspective.

We provide three options for dashboard hierarchy settings:

  1. Set to the person who is viewing the dashboard (default state)

  2. Set to a specific person, always

  3. Turn off dashboard hierarchy (don't set a person)

Dashboard Hierarchy Settings

To access the hierarchy settings of a dashboard on which you are an editor:

  1. From the dashboard, click the settings icon and select Manage Dashboard (you can also reach open a dashboard editor in Settings > Dashboards > Select dashboard)

  2. Click on the Insights tab

  3. Select one of the hierarchy options below

Set to the person who is viewing the dashboard

The hierarchy default setting is to set to the person who is viewing the dashboard, meaning the data will be set to the permissions of the current user and where they are in the hierarchy.

Ensure Hierarchy is enabled, the desired default hierarchy is selected, and select Dynamically set to viewer.

Set to a specific person, always

On the dashboard, the user can still change the hierarchy like they do today, but the initial view will be set to a specific person from the selected hierarchy.

Ensure Hierarchy is enabled, the desired default hierarchy is selected, select Set to a specific person. Next, in the dropdown, select the desired person from the hierarchy.

Turn off hierarchy on a dashboard

Turning off the hierarchy will use the individual user's authorization to determine what data they can view. The hierarchy selector will not be available on the dashboard when this is turned off.

Toggle Enable hierarchy to "off".
